That's very interesting.  I note Michelotti's name in one of the drawings.
I had actually found a design by Michelotti which looked remarkably similar but with the front grille in a different position, but I had dismissed it as it was described as a 1961 BMW 1600 prototoype (pictured below).  I note however that is a car which looks very much like it lurking under the picture you used for your puzzle!  I guess he did both.

I think you are right, Carnut. There are a lot of Michelotti cues in the design, think, for instance, of the Triumph Herald rear end and the general lines of the cars.
