Designed by Bertone? There are a few details reminiscent of Marcello Gandini's Citroën BX.

I have it as "Project 140" from 1979, submitted by Marcello Gandini... Hey, what did you answer when I mentioned Gandini in my first post? :lmao:

I have seen your source showing the answer you gave; there are lots of errors on that site but whether this is one of them I'm not sure.  I think my answer is right though so I'll keep it locked to see if you can find it.

OK, it's been locked for long enough so let's see if an Expert can either come up with I've got or say if Lorenzo721 is right..

Your source may suggest this car is by Heuliez.  I found more suggesting that Gandini is the correct answer.

Yes, that is what my source said.  Heuliez did build other prototypes for Renault but none of them look like this one.
It does, however, have similarities to other Gandini designs.
I'll sort this one out tomorrow and give Lorenzo his point; thanks for your input though.

I found the internet page you referred to. The problem is, the same picture is entered in two different places, once as a Heuliez project, and a second time as a Gandini design, so I guess that is where the confusion started. I still favour the latter; the overall style is truly reminiscent of other Gandini projects of the time.

Sorry Lorenzo but links to other sites like that are strictly forbidden at AutoPuzzles as it so often compromises other puzzles.
I've removed your links from your post.

This actually dates from 1984 and was Gandini's first project after quitting Bertone and starting his own independent design studio.

Thanks for the details. The car looks rather nice, but I guess as the submission was quite late for a car launched in spring 1985.

This mockup by Gandini is featured in the great book "50 ans de petites et secrètes Renault". It was completed in 1979, not in 1984. It was rejected but Gandini still won the competition with a completely different design, that was publicly unveiled in September 1984.

Ah, thanks for the clarification.
Gandini didn't leave Bertone until 1980 though so not sure what he was doing working independently in 1979..
After he left he still completed some Bertone proposals for them that he was working on, hence it was 4 more years before his first car as a fully independent designer - the Supercinq.
