searching "Fiat 500 topolino barchetta", I've found the car on a italian website: the seller says that the car is a derived barchetta from Fiat 500A (1938), with alluminium body. No mention about the coachbuilder

It is based on a 500A Topolino from 1938, yes, but I still need to know about its engine for the point..

It seems that the engine currently fitted is a standard Fiat 500A

Maybe, but the car has been restored quite recently and I seem to remember I got the information from somewhere which described the restoration, and it said it has an 1100 engine but tuned by someone I had never heard of..  That's the name I was looking for, but I need to check and see if I can confirm that information is correct.

Right, I've had a look into this and it seems my Italian is somewhat suspect...

I know you've pictured a 500A engine thorax, but it doesn't seem to be in situ.
The seller says it has a Fiat 1100 engine which has been downgraded (I thought 'Abbasato' referred to some tuning company... Sorry - no wonder I'd never heard of them!), which is the answer I'm assuming is correct.

So it's 1 point to thorax for finding the right car and I've given another to D-Type for getting the Fiat 1100 engine connection.
Well done.

I understand the car does have a 500A engine and the seller was referring to the brakes which are Fiat 1100..
It all depends on the punctuation marks and he actually meant something rather different from the way Google translates the Italian!

So I'm, sorry D-Type but it wasn't an 1100 at all so I'll have to dock your point again.  My apologies.

the seller says that brakes are from a Fiat 1100 (freni maggiorati derivati fiat 1100): he says that the car fits a common Fiat Topolino engine (ora monta un motore topolino A normale ) but he can give a Siata head ( fornisco modifica testa siata nuova ); vehicle registration from Fiat 500 A "berlina" (auto a i documenti di un topolino A berlina del 1938)

According to the seller, this car was built by S.I.A.V. (or better, in its building) in 1950 from a '36 Fiat 500a.
The car is now completely restored but oddly enough, when I asked the owner if the car was the same of the previous year, (when I saw it for sale in his stand and was in the puzzle car's configuration) he said it was not!
This is the car today:
(I saw the papers the seller has got, but there's nothing about this very car but some letters)
