I have wasted a lot of time because I couldn't decide whether it was F2 or a sports car. The FIA changed the rules for 1953 and sports cars had to have enveloping bodywork - I expect that some drivers who had cars which qualified for both formulae would have revised the body in this way. In the UK sports cars were often entered in F2 events.

To the point - 1953 Sachsenring car #125 is the BMW eigenbau of Kurt Ahrens Senior. It was an F2 race but this car would have complied with the regulations.

I hope I'm right.......

Klaus Reinsberger?
Looks like one of Kurt Baum's 'Fahrzeug'...#5 with an enveloping bodywork.

That's what it is. The car had to be added with enveloping bodywork in 1952.

Bad luck, nicanary. The car doesn't have #125, but #25, and the racetrack was Halle.

I'm so pleased that it's been solved. I was having sleepless nights.

I've found the race results for that event, but I didn't manage to find any internet reference to this car or any image. I think the FIA changeover for enveloping bodywork was 1953, so it's interesting that the German authorities decided to change the year before. I should have realised that nearly all German race circuits had cobblestones at some place or other!
