Yes!! It should all become a little easier for you now. Locked to you again until your next reply.

Well here it is at Gmund in 1953. It's called a Degen-Opel (there was also a Degen-Steyr) and was built by Erich Degen, although the caption to this photo says the driver is Franz Degen.

I enjoyed that "chase"!

I'm glad you enjoyed the chase. Your on-line searching skills are obviously better than mine (as seems to be the case with 99% of our fellow puzzlers) as I had a quick look on the interweb myself for this car and found zero.  Well done, yet another point to you.  :)   I will add some more photos of this car when I'm next home.

I won't be stupid enough to reveal my methods (which would never, ever, be GSI) but it was quite easy. Just a few key words and the web provides references to Austrian eigenbaus, and the car was included in some race results. A quick check with Google Images gave me the photo I included in my post.

As I have just posted on the Reed Citroen puzzle, I can't understand why others can't do this. If I can do it, and believe me, I'm as adept as a lobotomised chimp with IT, then surely other members could have a stab.

I had already guessed some of your puzzles were taken from magazines - no wonder they take so long to solve!

One method would be to look through old AP puzzles.  :lmao:

Merged.

I would never have guessed the engine was as big as that - the car looks small. I have found an image of the other Degen, but I'm keeping that for myself!

I was too lazy the open my book and just said Dagmar instead of Degen.  I know this car,it has just been featured in AustroClassic extensively.

Some you win, some you lose Pal.  I got the puzzle image from the latest edition of AustroClassic magazine, which had a great feature on this car, as you say.

Actually, no. I found another image which is supposed to be the Opel car, but which is clearly different, so I assumed it was the Steyr car. I'll do some investigating and maybe post it as a puzzle when I know for sure what the hell it is!

I have looked more closely at my "new" image of the Degen-Opel and I have decided that is is probably the same car. Some of the differences are cosmetic (the radiator grille and the windscreen) but the air intake on the bonnet is missing, and it wears steel wheels - these would have been bolt-on and the wire wheels in the original puzzle photo would surely have meant different axles with splines for the wires?

This is the photo.

The grille was changed in 1954 to the look we see in the last post.
Until 1953 it looked like on the other photos and like here:
