For one point, provide the year, make, and intended customer of this multi-wheel contraption

Too much for the Rookies, too simple for the Experts?

Hudson Special. Six of these vehicles were built for the Japanese Government for military use in Manchuria. Only the rearmost wheels were driven. The spares were idler/support wheels.

And the point goes to Ford08 for the correct answer.  I didn't expect this to be solved by a Rookie while it was in the Expert section.

There are other puzzles here with 6- or 8-wheel vehicles in the orient during the 1930s.  I wonder if they copied this one, or had Hudson and other companies build them to a government design?

This car is highly memorable. My interest - other period.
I explore the first French car-based books, magazines, and patents XIX and early XX century. To avoid errors accumulated over 100 years. And I write a bit about these cars.
