Solved: Rust never sleeps - 2016 edition
« on: January 23, 2016, 02:04:22 PM »
Time for a rotten group puzzle again.

For one point each, you must identify one of the 24 rusty cars below, find its counterpart from the picture rest as well as the relation between them. Some connections are quite easy, they may even help to identify the cars in question, others are hardly to be found without knowing the car. Have fun! Points will be awarded when the puzzle is completely solved.

First half of the cars:

ATTENTION!
The editors are thinking about splitting the Professional board into a junior and a senior board, so that professionals with less than 400 points can have their chance, before the sharks and cannibals will have a bite. In order to test this idea, this puzzle is restricted to puzzlers with less than 400 points until further notice.

I think this is a great idea.... not that I know any of the answers.

Ok, let's get this chance....I suppose that Rust number 8 is a Lancia Ardea 800, and Rest number 3 is a White Heron, whose scientific name is "Ardea Insignis".

Rest#6  = Charles Martin in his Alfa Romeo P3

Rust number 6 should be a Stoewer Sedina...and I hope that Rest number 4 is a monument of the Polish town of Sedina.

Close enough! It is a Stoewer Sedina and the monument is a Sedina statue which is part of the Manzel fountain in Stettin (Szczeczin).

Rust15 is a Playboy convertible.
Rest 2 is Hugh Hefner's Playboy mansion (it's for sale if anyone is interested, but Hugh Hefner will have the right to live there until he dies...

Bunnies included?

Your answer is correct.

The pictured car is Playboy #97, the last one, just like Hugh.

I'm probably wrong, but is Rust #21 a cut-down Vespa 400, and Rest#8 is the Vespa ridden by Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday?

Lordy, I'm finding this a very frustrating puzzle, as I know a number of the cars, but I'm struggling to match them up to the other images ???.

One combination I do know though is the famous Hotel Le Grande Large at Dolus-D Oleron in France (Rest 19), which matches the name of the Simca Aronde Grande Large coupe (Rust 22).
A car is for life, not just for Christmas.

This link seems too tenuous, but I'll give it a try anyway...

So, Rust 24 is a Flipper II, built by SEAB, and Rest 16 is the Flip Car, made for the dreadful Fast & Furious 6 movie.

Having scratched my head on this puzzle for an hour, I think I might now be on a roll.

So, Rust 12 is a Renault R4-based E3D Chipie, and Rest 11 is a French ad for the special edition Renault Clio Chipie, as printed on the rear cover of an old L'Auto Journal 'Salon special' magazine.

Rust 14 is a Delta Mini Cruiser, made by the Delta Motor Corporation in the Philippines, which matches with Rest 5, a Delta, a Tatra Type 11 built under licence in Germany in the mid-1920s.
