I'm surprised we haven't had this car before - what is it?

1921 Aerocar, The Aero Car was a planned Americanautomobile. It was to have used a two-cycle engine to drive a propeller. The car, whose wheelbase was only 60 inches (1,524 mm), was to have sold for $160. One prototype was made, in 1921, before the project was shelved.

Yes, well found. The product of Sheldon F. Reese.

It's such a striking car I would have thought it was already a puzzle, unless it has been and the search facility has confused me again.

It was used in a group puzzle before. It was #2 in this one:

No problem. If a puzzle is posted, it's there to solve. Unfortunately for puzzle-setters, the search facility doesn't always reveal if it's a repost, more often than not because of spelling or Continental accents, umlauts, graves, etc etc..

In this case, who knows whether it's Aerocar or Aero-Car or indeed Aero Car?

From what I can find it seems to be "Aero Car".

There was also an Aerocar made in Detroit from 1906 to 1908.

There was an Aerocar in Washington, one in Ohio, one in Argentina, an Aero Car in London...plus Curtiss' Aerocar, Andrč Morin's Aerocar and few more that were generically called that way.
