More than 'a bit similar' I would say as that's what this is!
Before I give you a point and move it would you care to enlarge on the Carina a bit?
This particular one is Volvo-engined by the way.

It was built in the early 60's in Sweden. Available as a 2 or 4 seater. With or without doors. Almost the same body as the Ockelbo. I found details on the internet of a similar one on a Borgward frame.

Completely by chance there is a picture, and write up, of one in the latest Classic and Sports Car, in the Lost and Found section.

Yes, that's right.
As soon as I opened up my copy of C&SC and saw the picture I thought - damn, there goes my Carina puzzle! And I thought it was quite a hard one too; what a coincidence.

It was made by Svenska Plastibilar AB (Swedish Plastic Car Co) in the early 1960s and was available as a 2 or 4 seater to fit 2 different chassis lengths and was designed to take a Vauxhall Victor windscreen!

Related to the Volvo Carina shown by Ocklbo-Lundgren in 1961? The general shape looks the same, especially the cowl / windshield area.

I've also seen the red car referred to as a Volvo Carina on other sites. Plastkaross is Swedish for "Plastic Car"; not sure that's the actual model designation.

No, I'm not sure 'Plastkaross' is its model designation either but in the lack of anything else I put it in anyway!

And to answer Wendax, it does have similarities to the Devin but is actually based on the Ockelbo body, which itself was said to have been based on a Ferrari Mondial body, from which the original moulds were made.

From a well-known source:

Year and place: 1958-59, Örebro + Göteborg

In 1957 the swedish sports car Ockelbo was presented, and was well received. (See 'Ockelbo'.)

Beginning with a cast of an 'Ockelbo', Thure Örnryd made some minor changes to the plastic body. Among others it got small fins.

Carina Type I was designed for chassis with a wheel base between 220 and 250 cm. The fully 4 metre long body could also be ordered as a 2+2 seater, and it could be delivered with a hardtop.

Type II
The Type II body was made for the same chassis as Type I, but made as a 4-seater. It was delivered only as a convertible.

Some 20 bodies were produced, and 6 complete cars on Saab, Volvo, DKW and Volkswagen chassis. Then, in 1959, Örnryd sold the moulds and continued producing plastic boats.

Another Carina
"Svenska Plastbilar AB" ('Swedish Plastic Cars') in Göteborg was the company that bought the moulds. They presented Carina Type III, a lengthened body for up to 280cm wheelbase chassis.

They also sold the elder Carina models, and a slightly modified Type I. The reason was some critic about the fins disturbing the flowing design of the body - so a model was sold without fins. Initially the fins on bodies simply were cut off, but later the moulds were modified.

Around 10 Carinas were produced in Göteborg, then this swedish sports car dream was over.
