It looks like a DKW prototype from the mid-1950s.

It looks like a DKW prototype from the mid-1950s.

There's a very good reason for that...!
Locked for you to see if you can identify exactly what DKW and the correct year (not mid-50s).

This is one of the three DKW FX prototypes developed between 1950 and 1952, with this FX III being from the latter 1952 period.

That's the right year and it is one of the DKW FX series, but not FX III.
Locked for you to dig further into; I've had trouble finding much out there about this car...

FX4 is the name you are looking for with F standing for Frontentrieb and X eXperimental. More photos to follow.

That weird translucent thing on the bonnet looks like the ghastly plastic 'butterfly' attachment one would commonly see in the hotter British Colonies during the 50s and 60s. It was supposed to aerodynamically redirect midges to be blown past the car rather than being slammed against the vehicle windscreen and making the screen a sticky nightmare to both see through and to clean.

Haven't see one for 40 years....... and I never did get to find out if they were effective or not!  :D

I remember them.
I suspect that, like many car accessories, they were totally useless!
They came from the same era as those strips that used to dangle from the rear end, ostensibly to release the pent-up static electricity...  yeah, right!
Headlamp hoods or a metal sun-visor anyone?!

My Djet has a slot for a small, low plastic shield (as used by Rene Bonnet on the Le Mans cars) and to honest, amazingly it works, and helps to keep the windscreen (windshield) quite clean!
