It did run at Le Mans in '58, yes, but it was not just an Ace.
There was more to what it was called so it's locked for you to have a dig and see if you can find out exactly what it was.

AC ACE LM Bristol

I'm afraid you're still missing the point frederick59.
Although it's true this car was registered as an AC Ace LM (and, I believe, entered into Le Mans as such) technically it actually bears little resemblance to an Ace.
Strictly speaking it's not an AC Ace Bristol LM.
So what is it?
One more go and if you still don't get it then the lock is lifted.

Not that, no.  Although the chassis of this car was designed by John Tojeiro as a one-off that's not part of its name.
So it's open now if any Rookies know the right answer?!

It's LM5000, the AC Ace LM Prototype - 100D2 Bristol-engined, Tojeiro space frame, body by Cavendish Morton, registered 8FPK. Apparently actually registered as an "Ace le Mans" if that's what you're after.

The LM5000 project is what I was after so you get the point (I mentioned in my post yesterday that although the car was registered as an Ace LM it wasn't really an Ace and that wasn't what I was looking for).
Sorry frederick59 but it was really easy to find this answer and I gave you every opportunity.  Better luck next time..

This car used to appear in club races a couple of decades ago, entered as A.C. Ace Le Mans (which is what it is registerd as) and the owner liked us to allocate it comp. no. 28 if we could.

Yes, that is what they called it even though technically it was quite different from an Ace - probably for homologation reasons!

At Le Mans in 1958 there were no separate GT classes so homologation is irrelevant.  This car was entered as a sports prototype by AC Cars who called it an AC Ace Le Mans.  Whether it bore any resemblance to the production Ace is immaterial, the maker said it was an AC Ace Le Mans.  Surely the name the maker gives a car is its correct name.

For entry into Le Mans purposes yes, as I always said.
But also the maker considered this to be Project LM5000 (whether or not they called it that when entering Le Mans) so that's what I wanted (and got).

Fair point

It's the same as the Mercedes-Benz 300SL, where the prototype was Model No W194 and the production version was the W198
