It is a Cooper, but not Bristol or Aston Martin engined.

Shot in the dark....Cooper Maserati ?  I know there were lots of them although none that I know of looking like this but.........

Yes! That's exactly what it is, way before the rear-engined Cooper Monaco Maserati cars. This was built in 1955 by Gilby Engineering for Roy Salvadori - Cooper supplied the chassis and Gilby installed the engine from their old Maserati A6GCS which was pretty obsolete by then. Unfortunately it wasn't a success and it was split up with the chassis going (I think) Down Under.
