I really have no idea, but is it based on an MG TC?
Doesn't look like a British location but if the above guess is right probably not continental Europe either.
Could it be in Australia?

Not from a Nordic country.

Good detective work by Allan Lupton - it is based on an MG TC and is pictured in Australia. Who built and raced it?

Mum's Racer from Lex Davison

Indeed - I think it was his first racing car. The point is yours - sorry Allan, but I took the approach that there must have been bucketloads of MG TC specials in Australia at that time, and a lock didn't seem appropriate.

That's fine - I knew nothing and was trying to make sense of the front axle arrangements and the right-hand carb bulge in the otherwise low bonnet. That bulge is so large, perhaps there was a belt-driven supercharger not just a couple of carbys (as they say there!).

Looked better with wings and lights and without that hump which I thought was for a supercharger - I'm still of that view, now we've seen how it looked when it didn't need the hump.

That is indeed a supercharger. I'm not sure whether the car was fitted with this at a later date, or whether it was an early version and was deleted later on.

AP's search facility continues to baffle - there were too many MG puzzles to check, but posting "davison" does not reveal carnut's puzzle.

That's because I hadn't posted it yet!  It was still a couple of weeks away...
I've already changed it for a different car of course now.

That's exactly what I thought when I failed to recognise it and gain the point!
