Proposed hatchback version of the Austin Montego. Supposed to take on the hatchback Vauxhall Cavalier and Ford Sierra.
Codenamed LM15 I think, and designed in the early 1980's.

Apparently it has a complete Maestro centre section; that's what it says on the site and might be right - I haven't compared it!

Odd that, as for most of us at the time the Maestro was the hatchback and the Montego was the "notchback" and estate.

Well, aren't Maestro and Montego centre sections pretty much the same thing ? Montego's wheelbase is 6 centimeters longer but the doors are exactly the same.

This picture shows the Maestro/Montego/Estate multi-mockup where the same centre section can be plugged to different front and rear ends.

These models were on display at the British Heritage Museum at Gaydon in the Midlands.
