Mmm, interesting. It's got a rear transaxle but outboard disc brakes and an ordinary-looking ohv V8 (or V6, can't tell), pretty unsophisticated steering geometry, so I think it's an idea for a mass-production car in the medium price range. The large greenhouse suggests 1970s. Is it American?

Good thinking and you might be nearer to the answer than you thought..
Not sure what the intended engine was.
It is from the early 1970s, yes

You're right, it is.
Locked for you to fill in the details of exactly what this car, designed by the 12-year old Reg Myatt, was and what it was designed for.

from the information that I have is rather limited and blurry, but it was a four door four seater with  recessed headlights and v8 engine with fuel injection and automatic gearbox behind rear axle.It was suppose to be built for reasonable fuel mileage in inter-city use,it was by reg myatt of woodside, chelmford Essex. From what I gather it got Inter-city First Prize? I hope I have the information correct.

No, it was a competition organised in the UK for a car of the entrants' choice.
I believe the same organisation commissioned more than one one-off car..

Not that competition, no.
Actually this is locked for kwgibbs as he's given nearly all the info required; now I just need to know what competition it was.  The answer is out there!

No, it wasn't a car company at all.

No, it was in the UK and was not normally particularly linked with cars on a daily basis, although as I said they did commission a couple of one-offs.

Yes!  The Sunday Telegraph actually, in 1970, and you were right first time with Inter-City car.  It was to  have a 4-litre V8 so definitely not a city car!

They had 1st and 2nd prize-winners in the City Car category then this 1st prize in the Inter-City car category.

Well done.

And the styling was done by a 12-year-old Reg Myatt and not by the ex-Rootes chief stylist Reg Myatt?

It's a bit difficult to read but that's what it says.. ("By Reg Myatt, aged 12, Woodside, Chelmsford, Essex, who wins £250")
Maybe Reg Myatt Jr.?

I find hard to believe that a 12-year old kid could draw such high quality sketches and technical drawings. He was probably helped by his father, or he was a real genius !

I agree, it seems almost inconceivable but if it was Reg Myatt Jr then his address, Woodside, Chelmsford, seems a bit odd as Rootes-Chrysler were based at Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Coventry - an awful long way away from Chelmsford.  No-one commuted those distances in those days.  But some of the other prize-winning designs were pretty good for youngsters too.

Myatt is not a common British surname, and I doubt if there were many 12-year-olds called Reg in 1970 either.  An odd one!  Maybe Reg Sr was posing as a 12-year-old!

This has made me smile!

The car was designed by my late father, Reg Myatt, for the Sunday Telegraph Competition in 1965.

He was a great designer, but even he couldn't of managed this aged 12! He was 32 :D

At the time he won the competition he was a Body Engineer at Ford. He very soon found himself working there as a stylist, working under Roy Haynes on detail stuff for the Zephyr/Zodiac IV, Mk 1 Escort and Mk 1 Capri. He went to Chrysler in 1968, later becoming Chief Exterior Stylist.

Think I still have the original sketches and copies of the magazine somewhere in his archive. I only found this when researching for the Wiki entry I'm compiling on him but thanks for featuring it, it's made my day  8)

Dave.
