The closest site I could find is the NZ Constructors Car Club but unfortunately there's no trace of the puzzle car there...

Is this forum still active (let's say the last post is less than 6 month old) or is it an abandoned site resting somewhere in the depth of the world wide web ?

It is still active and you're already looking in the right place as far as I recall...!
It may not actually be there on that site but you access where it is via there.

I've clicked pretty much everywhere on NZ Constructors Car Club website and I still can't find it...

Is the photo available in a file that can be downloaded from NZ Constructors Car Club website, or is it located on another site that is linked from NZ CCC site ?

I have the link to it saved and it is on the NZCCC site; I'm sure you can still get to it via the site, although my link takes you straight there and by-passes the opening pages...

Cherub built by Ern Everson.

I've spent an insane amount of time on this puzzle but at least I could solve two puzzles for the price of one !

Well dug out!
This was in fact the first Cherub, built be Ern Everson in the 1950s.  All  his and his sons' subsequent cars were also called Cherub, so it can get a little confusing (a bit like the Monty Python sketch where Aussie Bruce is introducing his cousin Bruce, his best friend Bruce, his Dad Bruce and his brother-in-law Bruce...!)
