I was a bit taken back when I found out it was American. I thought it might be Ford 10hp based!

It looks too small to be an American chassis, and that exhaust pipe suggests a smallish engine. Is it a BMC motor?

I'm only 95% sure it was built in the US.
The base is British, but not BMC.

It is Triumph-based,yes.
Unfortunately I've lost the website I got it from (despite saving it to my 'Favourites' - lots of those seem to have vanished...) so I can longer access the other details.  Even Searching by Image doesn't find it, so we'll have to call it solved with just that information.

Well that was an easy point! I'd continued to search the net for more info in case I was correct, but obviously I was wasting my time.

Thanks for the point - I can't see why anyone would do this to a TR, unless the body had been accident-damaged. I actually wondered whether it was a Triumph Roadster.

Sorry nicanary but delving into my archives I find I do have a bit more information about this car so am going to move it back to the Pro's and lock it for you again to come up with other answers (which engine it has, for instance, since it's not Triumph-powered..)

Yes, it has a Triumph frame but not a Triumph engine, plus a proprietary gearbox.
I still don't know which actual model of Triumph it was based on, but I suspect it was a TR4.  It could be a Spitfire though, but the point doesn't depend on the model!
