Richard Weiser gave up racing in 1952 and handed the car over to Josef Ortschitt. The photo was probably taken on July 5, 1953, when Ortschitt won the Formula 3 race at the Halle-Saale-Schleife. At least he had the same start number 137 there. The car itself was converted according to the Formula 3 regulations during the winter of 1950/1951.

The last post makes sense. I don't have any reference books about this car, but I see that it first raced in rear-engined form in 1951, but Richard Weiser raced a front-engined car in 1950, and a lot of this puzzle car has similarities. I think there's a good chance he rebuilt the car with the engine at the back.
