Two closely related questions:
(1)  Where is this car from?
(2)  Where is GMC a brand of car rather than Chevrolet, Cadillac, Holden, Vauxhall, Opel, etc?  Or is it a brand for spares, including "crate" engines - like Unipart?

1) The car and driver are from the USA
2) GMC is the truck division of General Motors.  The actual meaning varies, but a common interpretation is "General Motors Coach" (sometimes "General Motors Company").  There is currently a lot of overlap between Chevrolet trucks and GMC trucks.

It appears the puzzle car is also called the Wayne-Nardi

The trucks and buses are badged GMC and have been for many years.  I suppose some of them use the same engines that some GM cars use?  Perhaps de-tuned?

Currently, GMC and Chevrolet powertrains are identical, except possibly for labeling.  There were technical differences in the 1950's and 1960's.

The original car likely started out as a one of two Nardi-Danese Alfa Romeo 6c2500s (so Italy) although it is early history is not completely clear from what I know. It was then modified in the USA and fitted with a GMC straight 6 engine which is in the form we see it here. It is identiable by the large hood scoop and the flaired rear wheel arches.
