The 1954 Bangert Manning Special appears to wear a identical body, but this is not it.

I will lock it for though since you certainly appears to be on the right track. :)

It has been interesting researching Noel Bangert, who changed his name to Marshall and married Tippi Hedren. He was a film producer - the Exorcist was his - as well as a car designer. It has not helped however, there is even some doubt as to whether the Bangert Manning special had a Bangert designed body. It does look very modern for 1954, and  I found no record of any identical bodies. Please open it up. I am really intrigued now as to what that bodyshell is!

There appears to be some level of uncertainty surrounding these bodies, but the source I found it from seemed to believe that a few bodies were built of the same design which I assume the 1954 Bangert Manning Special was one of (I had not heard of that car before you mentioned it).

I'm looking for both a different name and a different year for this car.

It's open for all again then.  :)

Found it! it's the 1964 “Bohada Special” From Buffalo, New York. The name comes from the 3 guys who designed and built it (Bob Jones, Hank Steiger and Dave Timm) - including making the body. The running gear is Austin A40 in a tubular chassis. A second one was built on Volvo mechanics, but there must have been more because one of the bodies is on the Bangert Manning Spl. at the Peterson Automotive Museum .... the connection however is not clear

I believe you have found my source now, but this car is not the Bohada Special if I understands it correctly ... It's rather the other one built on Volvo underpinnings. So what was the name of it?

Locked for you again. .)

You are right in that the lighter coloured car you picture is the Volvo based car. The photo is at the Toronto show. The problem is that in one of the articles this car is referred to as the H.Steiger Special, apparently because he was the person who accepted the first prize for bodywork. He is clearly one of the three builders referred to in the other article, but that article refers to the first and second Bohada Specials - the Volvo version being second. Apparently Steiger's son is due to provide more information to the excellent Forgotten Fiberglass site.

1964 H. M. Striger Volvo Special was the name I was looking for. I'm not sure what the official name of the car was, but I think I will name it that for this thread to differentiate it from the other Bohada special which I believe have already been guessed on this site.

One point for you. :)
