Thank you, but I just searched for Rex-Simplex after your guess!
#10 could be a Rex-Simplex 13/35 PS (or 13/38 or 13/40) solved in 2015:

That's not it. But such brilliant detective work should not go unrewarded. A bonus point awaits you when this puzzle is completed.

I'm guessing #10 could be the Rex-Simplex C 17/30PS Doppel-Phaeton, 1907-14, solved in 2010, and seen here: http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/2010-38/rex-simplex-c-1730ps-doppel-phaeton-1907-14

Very close - right idea; wrong puzzle.

I think I found it, but I think it should be locked for Tom_I (2015 ;) )

Go ahead if you think you've got it, PJ.  :)

One Good Samaritan point awaits you, when this puzzle is complete.

#7   This 'car', never built, was vaporware before that term was coined. In this case, a minimal amount of vapor.

Could #7 be the Ford Nucleon, solved in 2007, and seen here: www.autopuzzles.com/forum/2007-35/what-it-is-142-solvedgtgtgtford-nucleon

The Nucleon was vapourware in the sense that it was announced as a concept in 1957, but never made it to the prototype stage, let alone production. Only scale models were ever made. The other vapour aspect is that it was to be powered by a small nuclear fission reactor, which produced steam to drive the car, in a system similar to that used in nuclear submarines. Waste steam would have been condensed back to water in a closed system, so there would be no vapour emissions from the vehicle.

#5   Not a light bulb, but you'll get the idea when the sun rises.

I can't help thinking that the light bulb reference must lead to Mazda, a trade name for such devices used for decades by General Electric in the US and Associated Electrical Industries (and their successors) in the UK. The Mazda motor company doesn't go much on model names, but there was the Luce ("light" in Italian).

So could #5 be the 1963 Mazda 1000 Luce designed by Bertone, solved in 2010?

I will say this - people are taking the clue to literally .

In the computer industry, vaporware is a product, typically computer hardware or software, that is announced to the general public but is never actually manufactured nor officially cancelled. Use of the word has broadened to include products such as automobiles.

Thanks for the explanation, but that's why I tried the Nucleon, in that it was announced (if only as a concept), but never became a reality.

And sorry if I'm being too literal. With clues as spare as these, you feel you have to squeeze as much as you can out of them. The additional mention of vapor made me think that steam might be involved in the equation somehow.

So I'm thinking it's a Mazda, but not a Luce. There are several Mazdas about on the site, and I can't see a logical way to pick one rather than any of the others, but as it was one of your own puzzles, I'll try the Mazda 121L, solved in 2007.

http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/2007-35/solved!-puzzle-199-mazda-121l/

Then I'll give up.  ;D

Understood. Unlike the Nucleon, the correct puzzle car was never built - not even a prototype. as near as anyone can tell.

Time is running out. Here is an update - 4 down; 6 to go - evenly split by Tom_I and Paul Jaray

#1   A windy name blew in, and  PJ skort another point (as did SACO)   Tom_I
#2   It may bug you to know that this is an organism (as an insect) that transmits a pathogen.    Paul Jaray
#3   No horsing around, this is a Sisyphean task for any car (or truck)   Up for Grabs!
#4   Not a  Blackshirt; it's a (probably) black car.   Up for Grabs!
#5   Not a light bulb, but you'll get the idea when the sun rises.    Tom_I
#6   Once upon a time, TV shows were built around a central automotive 'character'.    Up for Grabs!
#7   This 'car', never built, was vaporware before that term was coined.    Up for Grabs!
#8   Tremulis was repeating himself with this contraption.    Up for Grabs!
#9   Who I was is not who I am   Up for Grabs!
#10   Your Tyrannosaur would find this one  not too complex.    Paul Jaray

New Clues!

#1   No clue needed
#2   No clue needed
#3   Look a horse, of course, gallops through the desert light. Not a mountain, not a hill, but higher than the ground around it - in the desert.
#4   Rocky's last name, minus an "A", from the Alfa alphabet.
#5   No clue needed
#6   Night Rider's car had a silly made-up name. This show was named for an actual production car, though this example was modified and given fantastic fictional attributes.
#7   Though the story of this car is a sketchy one, our soon-to-be-most-prolific poster was able to fill us in.
#8   In the days when BRAT's were in their prime, Alex re-cycled a name for a second time.
#9   This tired puzzler long ago went by another moniker, which coincidentally, was the name of a car from a time even longer-ago -not the last century, but the one before that.
#10   No clue needed
