The Nucleon was vapourware in the sense that it was announced as a concept in 1957, but never made it to the prototype stage, let alone production. Only scale models were ever made. The other vapour aspect is that it was to be powered by a small nuclear fission reactor, which produced steam to drive the car, in a system similar to that used in nuclear submarines. Waste steam would have been condensed back to water in a closed system, so there would be no vapour emissions from the vehicle.

I can't help thinking that the light bulb reference must lead to Mazda, a trade name for such devices used for decades by General Electric in the US and Associated Electrical Industries (and their successors) in the UK. The Mazda motor company doesn't go much on model names, but there was the Luce ("light" in Italian).

Thanks for the explanation, but that's why I tried the Nucleon, in that it was announced (if only as a concept), but never became a reality.

And sorry if I'm being too literal. With clues as spare as these, you feel you have to squeeze as much as you can out of them. The additional mention of vapor made me think that steam might be involved in the equation somehow.

So I'm thinking it's a Mazda, but not a Luce. There are several Mazdas about on the site, and I can't see a logical way to pick one rather than any of the others, but as it was one of your own puzzles, I'll try the Mazda 121L, solved in 2007.
