#8 was built by Edd China of Cummfy Banana Ltd, perhaps best known for making high-speed motorised furniture. It was commissioned by Friendly Robotics, and was intended to be a scaled-up replica of their "Robomow" robotic lawnmower. It seems to have been known as both "Robomow" and "The UFO". It uses the transmission (and registration number) from a VW Type 2 campervan, with, as already said, a Rover 3.5 litre V8 engine.

All correct!
I saw some episodes of Wheeler Dealers and Auto Trader, but I've never made the conection between him and the Casual Lofa or the Garden Shed or the Toilet or all the others 'things' on wheels he did...and he held some Guinness World Records too!
As I told you probably you all know him and the shape of the car (a robotic lawnmower) was a big clue.

http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=15362.msg141867#msg141867 ), but I must confess I didn't know him untill I reached my 'China' folder...looking for him, I realized that he is the same guy in 'Wheeler Dealers', a show I knew (but I'm not a fan of....). Probably he is not that known after all.

There are very few pictures around of the Robomow. Apparently it was badly damaged when a truck tipped a load of gravel over it by accident. Among other things, this broke the custom-made windscreen, which had cost 4,500 GBP, and the car was not restored.

It went on to become the mechanical base of a vehicle called "Chaise Lunge", built in the form of a large sofa. In May 2007 this set a Guinness World Record for fastest item of motorised furniture, at 92 mph.
