Opel?

If not, is the manufacturer still in existence today?

Yes

(Sometimes I don't like to answer two questions at a time.  ;) )

Wendax

Yes, that was the easy bit. Now I need the designer.

AlexFrance

Was the designer from the USA?

Was it a proposal designed outside of BMW?

richard cuyler

It seems to be rear-engined, so is it perhaps a Wilhelm Hofmeister design proposal for an updated BMW 700? To me, though, it looks very Italian, something Vignale may have been proud to present. ??? ???

You are right about the base car, but it was not done by Wilhelm Hofmeister.

Just to make things perfectly clear, do you confirm that the base car is a BMW 700?

AlexFrance

Was it designed by a German individual/studio?

Wendax

Yes, we had designs by him at AP before.

AlexFrance

Was it a proposal for a regular BMW 700 or a specific version, for instance a 700 RS or a 700 LS Luxus Cabriolet?

Wendax

I have to correct myself. Judging by the year this drawing was made, it is not based on a 700, but on another rear-engined BMW.

AlexFrance

Based on my -highly- limited knowledge of BMW cars, I can think only of one another rear-engined one: the BMW 600.

But it doesn't look like that's the base of that car, or is it?

Unless it's a model that was not badged under the BMW name?

Wendax

I think that BMW 600 is right. Remember that it is just a drawing that never materialized.  :)

Ok! :)

Now, let's try to find the designer of that car. What about Baur?

Wendax

Not Karmann, and not by a coachbuilder at all.

AlexFrance

So this is the name of an individual we are looking for?
