Solved -PJ657- Daubenberger's Auto Boat, 1929
« on: March 25, 2015, 01:18:00 PM »
Need your help on this:
Can anyone read that script?
I found 95% but just one letter doesn't match!
In return, I'll post soon a puzzle with a car taken from here that I just found ;)

EDIT: Since this is Autopuzzles, I'm adding a pic of the car He made ;)

Ok, I'll go first:
Could it be "Danberberger" and "Des Moines Iowa" in your opinion?

I'd rather say Daubenberger.

FWIW, I read it as Daubenberger also and perhaps the first name is Irene.

If you Google that combination in the location Des Moines, Iowa, there is currently such a person living there.

You may wish to pursue that possibility.

Thank you Bill.
About the first name, I believe it is something like 'Ing, Mr, Dr' or somethinkg plus 'W. es.'
I can't figure it out well, but I took that writing from a 1929 magazine.

We have some very, very talented investigators here.
Someone just found the answer of this puzzle and also a pic!
I think I'm going to delete this post and make a puzzle, expecially for him!  ;D

Well, I was going to leave it but PJ insists I answer it.

This a hand built "Auto-Boat" from 1929 constructed by a Mr. W.G. Daubenberger of Des Moines, Iowa.

I found rather little beyond what PJ earlier posted other than it was entirely hand built except for the motor which was from a Nash.  He is trying to contact the family who apparently still reside in the city to see if he can find out more and I am still working the Internet to see if I can find anything, particularly in the Des Moines newspapers of the day or their City Historical Archives.

And we have a winner!
I don't think there will be much more to find out, Mr Daubenberger showed his creation in 1929 and I doubt there will be updates, but in case I'll keep you posted.

Sorry, my bad.  I guess I was not looking closely as I typed my answer.
Yes, it is Daubenberger.  Which is also not easy to spell ::)
