Solved -PJ 687- Beckenham Special, 1939
« on: October 05, 2015, 11:20:35 AM »
I have a make (a name), model (generic), year and place (according to the license plate).
I would like to know more about it.
I have zero further info about and can't answer to many of your questions.
1 point if you know more.

Well that's the second Beckenham Special.
The engine is an MG 18/80 Mk III (Tigress) and I think the chassis was also MG 18/80 shortened. The front suspension is Lancia Lambda 7th series. The back axle was Ford V8, but with reduced track.
The supposed date of construction is 1939 and a lot of what I know comes from Motor Sport, January 1943, where the constructor, K. Salmon, wrote up what he did
Opinionated but sometimes wrong

According to the article, K.B. Salmon built it with the help of his friend Edward Batten (builder of other specials) at Beckenham Motor Co.
Batten's Specials were built there too...shouldn't be called Salmon's Special, to avoid confusion?

Yes you are right, but for some reason they called it a Beckenham Special and that's what the current owner, Robin Tudge, still calls it
