Production began just after 1920.

Ah, so this is a slightly more recent car than I thought.

Is it Cartermobile? I can't seem to find anything else that fits the criteria, and even that one brings up conflicting information (different sources giving different dates & states of origin).

You deserve a point for all the research. Yes, it's a Cartermobile, made in Hyattsville, Maryland, with company HQ in Washington. I agree the internet is conflicting on this one, my source claiming 1915 (it looks later than that to me) and Georgano saying a few cars were made in 1921/22, which is more believable.

Well solved.

Having done a little more poking around, this is what I find about the car. This says 1914-15; I can't speak for the reliability of the information but it does seem pretty detailed. Based on the appearance of the car, I would have guessed it was made in 1916-17 myself.

I've just had a quick Google, and there's little or nothing about this marque on the net. I got the photo from a French picture site, and assumed that the date was incorrect when I found alternative information in Georgano. Having said that, the famous encyclopedia is known to be wrong on occasion.

It makes you wonder why the encyclopedia's information even names the town of manufacture , when this is in fact wrong, unless the editor read MO as MD. Even then, the town name is wrong. Looking at the image again, I think the date should be a bit earlier, and I'm going to change it to the date of the prototype.

There seems to be a very simple answer, two completely different companies, the puzzle car was made in 1915 by Cartemobile from Hannibal Missouri and then there was another Cartemobile made between 1921 and 1922 in Hyattsville Maryland.
