Apologies for the poor photo. What is this car, and why is it named in this way?

It's a perfectly good question. Yes, there are some SS100 parts in the car.

Is it perhaps a Marendaz Special?

There are no Alvis parts as far as I know, but there is definitely a Marendaz connection.

According to the Marendaz registry, this is the Jagan Special (PDU569) consisting of "M-S chassis/body with SS100 engine, radiator, front wings."

Scrapped in 1958, and wearing "trade" plates in this photo. One of the owners was Len Bailey, presumably the F1 designer/engineer.

I thought this one would last longer!
