No. In fairness, I think I may have misled you with the clue about being a car dealer. I may have been mistaken there, because there were two well-known American sports car personalities at the time with the same surname.

That's another clue! The subject of this puzzle may have been more of a driver than a dealer.

Yes. Well solved. My puzzle photo was very poor, but showed the rear of the car so that it would be less recognisable. I was going to post a front view when it was solved, but you have saved me the bother. Thanks.

PS the "other" driver was of course importer Ernie McAfee.
