What is this car? Please tell me the builder and the make of engine, for one point.

Is this a home-build imported from UK to USA? The 1960 Chev in the background suggests this shot was taken in that year or perhaps a year or two later.

I don't have a date for the car, but I would say you're not a million years away. It was not imported, but the car was indeed from the USA.

Further research reveals that the car was raced between 1960 and 1962.

So it's a fully American car? Does it have four-wheel-drive?

Interesting that it should be towed by what seems to be an Austin Healey 3000 - that's what made me think it may have been from the UK. Just wonderfully Anglophile Americans involved then!  :) :)

The owner raced an MGA in 1957/58, so that's what the tow car could be.

The puzzle car does not have 4-wheel drive! It was built in the USA but one major component came from elsewhere in the world.

Is the engine from Europe?

I'm very sorry, I missed this question. I was going to transfer the puzzle to the Pros, but now I'll leave it here.

YES the engine is from Europe.

Sorry, I've edited my answer meanwhile.

So it's a DKW-powered Zeter Mk2 built by John Zeitler.

Yes. Well found.  It was built in 1960 after he'd crashed and wrecked his self-built Mk1 - in 1957/58 he raced an MGA and I reckon that's the tow car in this photo.
