The chassis from which this car was built came from the UK, but the puzzle car was built in another country.

Possibly. It was used for sports car racing, but not CanAm.

This is a G.E.M.C.O, or Gemco, Olds, a John Riley Lotus Oldsmobile base with bodywork by Glen Eden Motor Bodies headed by Garry Pederson.

Which is the correct answer. It was constructed around the chassis frame of the Lotus 18 single-seater owned and raced by Tony Shelly in the UK which he took with him when he returned to New Zealand. When it was obsolete even by NZ standards (no offence intended - competitive cars were short in supply in those days), it was updated for sports car racing.
