Yes; I didn't think it was at all obvious...!

The wheels, mate, the wheels !

Of course!  From a 275 GTB short-nose 2-cam; it hadn't struck me that's what they were!

Doug Whiteford's Ferrari 275GTB #07307
Quote
"this Ferrari was lent by the father (Whiteford?) of the honeymoon couple and was fitted with inferior Australian tyres to save costs. The Ferrari suffered a tyre blowout on the Hume Highway near Gunning and hit a tree some way up. Les Miller built a new body for the Ferrari and the original body was hung off the wall of his Willoughby workshop for a number of years. I think Bill Prowse owned the car after Les Miller."

This is how I found it:
After trying all possible combinations, with no luck, I tried to track back all the known 275.

Well done!
The key was of course the fact this car was based on a 275GTB; I regret not studying the wheels more carefully!  I should have 'modified' them!  On the other hand, it's important that puzzles are actually solvable!

Here are the original puzzle photo before slight modification and the only other picture I have, a front view:

As far as I'm concerned I did pretty much the same except I stopped at the "with no luck" stage. I wish I had time to search all chassis one by one but I actually have a life, a family and a job  ;)

Well, it took me few minutes...after you find that website with all the chassis numbers, you just have to enter it once and modify just the number each time. If it does not appear in the 1st page, move on...it was so easy that I did not try to refine it excluding 1st prototypes or LHD/RHD cars. The only problem was that I was not sure the original source had the number and if there was just the model, all my work was useless....but Carnut's pretty accurate reply "From a 275 GTB short-nose 2-cam" gave me hope ;)

Yes, that design of alloy wheel was specific to that model of 275GTB, but I assumed any Pro would know that anyway!
