Experts are baffled; let's see how many minutes it takes the Pro's!

I'm quite sure that it is a repost. As I recall, it is a British car.

If you can find it then you're cleverer than I am; I searched extensively as I thought it unlikely it hadn't been posted but didn't find it.
It's not British.

This car was built by Ray Russell (same Russell of the Gadabout and several others).
I post that very pic somewhere here (probably it was a group puzzle  ;)).

Carnut

Ah - no wonder Wendax has seen it on AP!
I Searched for all Ray Russell cargoes and whilst there are quite a few mentions of him I didn't find this picture in relation to any of the results..

So you've answered the 'by whom?' question.
Whilst it doesn't seem to have any actual name can you say what it's referred to as on the site where I found it (and maybe others too, I don't know)?
Locked for PJ of course.

That's not an easy question...my pic ( and many others ) cames from Geoffrey Hacker's archive and there was not a name. It has some resemblances to the Gadabout...is it a similar name?

No, as I said it doesn't have a name that I know of so I'm just after the car's description, which is slightly intriguing.
I'm sure you can find out through sites which also feature the Gadabout..

Thank you Carnut, you gave me the chance to find back my source and fix the extraordinary story of Ray Russell!
He's been featured at least 6 times in some Popular Magazines and his son is still out there with many interesting memories.
After his 1st plastic bodied car in 1941, he built a similar car, but with plywood body in 1943. After his adventure with the MG TA-based alloy-bodied Gadabout in 1944, he got back with a plywood-bodied car. In 1945 he was working on hydraulic powertrains and in that year he built an interesting aluminum-bodied, suspension-less motor scooter. In 1947, the same powertrain (called Hydrolic Drive) was used for this small sports car. He was also the designer of the Detroiter and a restyled Ford in 1953.

(but I found also an hi-res picture of the puzzle car and, surprise surprise, you can read '1942 gadabout' on it.)

Carnut

Well done, that's exactly it.  It's his hydraulic-powered sports car!
