If you see a photo of the driver sitting in the car, you'll see how little they knew about aerodynamics in those days. The seat was the standard MG TD position, so the driver sits high up in vintage style.
I must be right - that's what it says on Wikipedia

Strange really because they'd made huge advances in aerodynamics in the aircraft industry so it's not as though they had no idea how important they were.
I'm sure that glass wind deflector in front of the driver would have done a great job though...!
