No, not a DBR2 replica and not based on a Mazda.

There seems to be very little room under that sleek bonnet for an engine, so is it rear-engined and, say, VW-based?

No, it's front-engined.  No VW bits..

Is it an aluminium-bodied one-off, based on an MG B?

Yes it is, so I'll lock it for you until your next reply to see what you can find.

Pitchfork Special, built by David King from a 1967 MGB GT.

Exactly!
It's a Maserati A6G replica of course; here's the front view:

I understand that the builder called it Pitchfork as a sort of agricultural reference to the Maserati trident. The chassis was bespoke and must have cost a small fortune - no wonder he's asking nigh on £35k for the car.

I'm surprised that this wasn't dealt with earlier. The car was road tested last month by the biggest-circulation classic car magazine in the world. I would have thought most car enthusiasts would subscribe to something.

I would definitely subscribe to all the classic car mags, but with 70% of the pages containing adverts for delicious cars I'll never be able to drive, never mind afford and with the hellish purchase price of the mags, I'll need to keep away, sadly... :-X

I know what you mean. But it's a good source for new puzzles...........
