Going by the radiator it could be BMW-based. Is it?

Not quite; body is earlier and chassis is later, but they aren't from the same year..
This is according to the information I have, but to be honest I have a bit of difficulty believing it's right...

Just to make sure I understood your reply correctly: the body was built before 1950, and the chassis is a postwar BMW chassis.
If I assume that the body was built after the chassis and not in the same year, the chassis must have been built between 1945 and 1948. So the chassis has to be a BMW 321/2 built after the war by Awtowelo BMW. Am I right?

The trouble is the information I have doesn't seem to me to be completely accurate.
According to the advert for the car it was not based on a pre-war car but was also built before 1945.. Make of that what you will as I don't think they made any cars between 1940 and 1945?  Also the engine size quoted in the advert doesn't tie in with any production models I know about.  The advert is actually a period advert from the late 1940s so I sort of assumed they knew what they were talking about...

BMW built small numbers of the prewar cars during WW2. They all were powered by different versions of the two-litre engine, except for the BMW 335 which had a 3.5 litre engine.

OK; the ad quotes neither of those engines.
Did they fit anyone else's?

BMW always used engines of their own. They started with 750 (3/15 PS), 800 (3/20 PS) and 850 (309) cc fours, 1.2- (303), 1.5- (315) and 1.9- (319, 329) litre sixes. Perhaps the advertised car was a bitsa.

Right; I would say then that the advertiser was about 10 years out regarding when the chassis was built..  Pre-war it must have been.

1500 cc?

Yes, so that should tell you the base and you've almost got the date it was bodied so your point is almost earned!

So it should be a 1949 roadster based on a BMW 315 (or 315/1).

Bodied in 1948 actually but we won't split hairs..
I think the basis must be a 315 as it's described as a one and a half litre car.

Below is the advert; I must admit when I found this I thought it was built by a coachbuilder called Deze, who of course I'd never heard of.  Nor could I find any mention whatsoever of such a company; then I realised it only means 'This' in Dutch!  So that didn't leave a great deal of information but I thought no matter, Wendax will know exactly what it is!

Maybe it was built in Holland, though it's odd that a coachbuilder is not mentioned in the advert.

Interesting, never seen that before. Most probably Dutch, I'd say.

Definitely a Dutch advertisement. Den Haag is The Hague in English.
Deze means this/these but is not a Dutch coachbuilder as far as I know.
Pennock was from The Hague
