Solved - NEH 4059: Ferrari 250 GT SWB Bertone - 1962
« on: May 01, 2015, 07:44:22 AM »
This must have been posted before, right?  Well, it seems not so it's time it was!
So for an easy Rookie point identify the car, its designer, its builder and when it was built - for 1 point?:

I share your surprise that such a famous car had not been posted before . . . and also that no rookie guessed it correctly. Oh, well. this is, of course, the wonderful shark-nosed 1962 Ferrari 250 GT with coachwork by Bertone, Serial #3269 GT. A true beauty.

Of course!
I hadn't intended moving it beyond the Rookies but maybe we don't actually have any any more!
What I also wanted when I asked for the designer and the builder was actually which individual did the design at Bertone?
Locked for you to say.

This was Nuccio Betone's personal car for a while, and as some folks may not know, Bertone himself was not a stylist.  No problem, really - he had Giorgetto Giugiaro draw the design. Built under the supervision of Giacinto Capogna at Carozerria Bertone, the car debuted at the 1962 Turin Motor Show.

I hope we can attract more (A few?  Some?  Any?) rookie puzzlers.

Only one more Expert puzzle left for you to identify...!
You're right, of course.  The heads of the design houses rarely designed cars themselves; when Sergio Pininfarina died Autocar did a feature in which they described him as the greatest car designer of all time.  I felt it necessary to inform them that he never designed a single car in his life, but employed many brilliant stylists like Brovarone, who worked behind the scenes and were never publicly known.  Now we know better of course so they really shouldn't have got it wrong...  Yet history records him as a great car designer!

Here's another picture of this car:
