I could find very little information on this one, but here is what I have.

A Mercedes L6600 chassis commissioned by Stockmann Schokolade of Wandsbecker, Germany in 1954.
The body was built by Fahrzeugwerke Kannenberg (FAKA) KG of Saltzgitter.

I too got stuck on the Finnish Department Store Stockmann for a very long time.

Congrats Bill. That's a great find. This vehicle was falsely identified for many years as a Mercedes-Benz O 6600 bodied by Ayats on a well-known Dutch site and the same identification appears now on some French sites even if it disappeared from the Dutch site. But Ayats was clearly an impossible answer as it just bodied Spanish and French buses in a very distinctive flamboyant style.

I was stuck with Stockmann Schokoladen and I was very surprised to see that the key was Stockmann chocolate. How did you find the Fahrzeugwerke Kannenberg ? For sure the body was German, but I was thinking of Gaubschat, who bodied many Bus-Zug. Even the Alamy mage bank did not mention FAKA in its keywords. Being given your answer, I could find the message "Was ist dies für ein Fahrzeug ? Bus ? LKW ? Ende 50er Jahre" which explains all, but I still wonder how you could get to it.

Anyway, it's always a great pleasure to have the right answer to a puzzle. You make my day !

Thanks for the nice words.

Patrick, this is the way I got to the answer and it is sort of what I do on this Forum anymore.
As a Pro, most of the puzzles I solved never got to this level so I try to pick subjects that interest me and are most likely rather difficult.

1. The name Stockmann...........
This was an obvious starting point and I made some 50 Google searches using different criteria once I found that the name was associated with the Stockmann Department Store Group based in Finland.
I also did Google searches using their name in the other countries where they had stores.

This got me absolutely nowhere.

2. The Logo...............

There is an obvious logo on the nose of the bus, looked like a boy with a shepherd's crook.
I did a Google Image search for "Stockmann Logo" and my goodness, on page 2 of the search I found the first Alamy image. That gave me the name Stockmann Schokolade and the city where they were located.

3. The City where Stockmann Schokolade was located #1.

That gave me the City of Wandsbecker/Hamburg and after about 20 searches, a simple Google Image search "Wandsbecker" gave me the second Alamy image.

4. The City where Stockmann Schokolade was located #2.

I did a bunch of Google Image searches of Stockmann Schokolade Hamburg that gained nothing.

5. The City where Stockmann Schokolade was located #3.

I finally did a Google Web search, not Image, of Stockmann Schokolade Hamburg and BINGO, the 4th item listed was that German site you mentioned that had the information I posted plus one more poor photo and the original photo Saco posted.

In all, almost 100 Google searches on the 8th July.

The part of Hamburg where Stockmann made its chocolate is Wandsbek (not Wandsbecker). You should remember it from my Mikromobil puzzle, Bill.

Hi Gerd:

Rather quickly, I think this is a function of how different language groups use their language.

In Germany, a person living in Berlin is a "Berliner", one living in Hamburg is a 'Hamburger" etc. etc.

In the UK, a person living in London is a "Londoner", in the US a person living in New York is a "New Yorker, a person living in Los Angeles is an "Angelino", a person living in Chicago is a "Chicagoan" etc. etc.

In looking at a lot of German language sites, it seems that in that language, firms that are based in a specific city are described as if they were persons. In other words, a firm based in Berlin would be described as "the Berliner company XYZ", and in the case of the puzzle in question, Stockmann is described as the "Wandsbecker firm Stockmann" even if the name of the city is Wandsbeck.

Just some thoughts.
