OK.  I've given you a point for identifying the car, but I really wanted the story behind it rather than just the name of the car so I'll leave it up for someone to complete and earn another point.

As far as I kno it was a reworked version of the Zest prototype(X684), styled by Michelotti. During its developement at least 4 different front/rear treatments we're considered. This picture shows one of them. The styling was done inhouse by Triumph Styling Studio at the end of 1965.

You've got the gist of it, although I don't think it was actually a re-work of the Zest, more an attempt by Triumph themselves to up-date the TR4 into the TR5 without going to the expense of employing an outside stylist to do the job.  Thankfully they saw the error of their ways and just tarted up the TR4 a bit to make it into the TR5 then employed Karmann to update it into the TR6 a couple of years later.
