We seem to be going round in circles. You have confirmed that it's not based on a family car, so is it built on the chassis/engine of a British sports car?

Thanks for the lock. The wheels make sense now - they're probably from a TD, although that model wasn't introduced until 1950. Maybe the base is an earlier MG model.

Still can't find it yet.

No it wasn't.
In fact I've done a bit more digging and I find my Reply #2 to D-type was incorrect when I told him it was not Australian; it was..

I just discovered this apparently forgotten puzzle.  I can't believe someone hasn't tried the obvious, but since they haven't, I will.  It has been established that it is an MG sports chassis (not family) from the 1940's, customized in Australia.  By my reasoning, if it is an MG sports chassis from the 1940's it must be a TC (it could be a very late TB, but that would be very unlikely).  So I will say a: 1940's ('45-'49) MG-TC with a customized body (I have no idea who the customizer might be - it might be a homebuilt).

And that's all I know about it too so it's one point for you and the puzzle is solved.
