The TRS ,  built by Aubrey Thompson of Mallow , Co Cork , Ireland based on Ford and Riley components , raced pre war , winning at the Phoenix Park in 39, raced in the early 60s using Ford 315 cllassic power by Arthue O'Leary , now restored and running to original spec

Yes, though I have to confess I was unaware it had any Ford parts in it, just that it was based on a 1938 Riley 9 1100.
'TRS' stands for Thompson Racing Special.
Very good.

Thompson Riley Special (AKA TRS) driven by Aubrey Thompson. Where ?  I'd hazard a guess at Tallaght (Leinster Trophy).  The car behind is quite interesting too.

I can't decide what to do....... you've got the car, but that's not the race. LOCKED for you to investigate. It shouldn't take too much work.

Ok.....The bodywork looks very new - almost as new as it does today (!) - which, along with the car bahind, makes this a pre-war photo. Possibly Cork or Limerick GPs or the Bray 'round the houses' race.
I suppose Cork is the most likely since the car came from Mallow, which wasn't a million miles away.....

I got this photograph from Aubrey Thompson. It is not the Phoenix Park 1939 where it won the Wakefield Trophy or The Leinster Trophy at Tallaght 1939 where it wore a panel over the passenger section.
I suspect it is the 1940 Ballinascorney Hillclimb where it posted FTD.
The car in the background is the Charlie Manders Adler Einsitzer (Trumpf Junior based) which still survives.

I feel that this reply is good enough for the point. Well solved. I'm sorry to be pedantic, but I wanted to establish the date of the photo, because the car changed form shortly after this. At this stage it was Ford s/v powered, but the engine proved unreliable, and was replaced by an ex-Percy Maclure Riley Brooklands unit together with its preselector gearbox.

According to my source, the photo was taken at the 1938 Limerick GP. However, both yourself and our new member probably know more than myself about Irish racing at that time, so I quite happily stand to be corrected. Just to make it clear - if there is a LOCK on a puzzle it means that no other member can attempt to solve that puzzle until the lock is lifted. Comments are acceptable but not recommended if it helps the other member to solve it!

The Limerick races had the start/finish and pits situated in William Street. This looks like a town-centre in the photo, so I think the identification could be correct (the website where I found the image had comments from other readers attached, and it was one of those that claimed it was the '38 Limerick GP.)
