Was it meant to employ all-wheel-drive?
No, it was many years before Piëch took the lead..

Is this a prototype for the first-generation Audi 100 Coupe S, as the front wings/fenders seem to be pure Audi 100?

No.

No.

I told you this car isn't a predecessor of any production model Audi has built.
It's more a project of what might have be.
I'll post more pics later.

Designed by an outsider?
No, quite the opposite.  ;)

So it is an Audi project of the late sixties?
Sorry, I didn't notice your reply. It's from the very early 70s.

Was this an Audi project for a small entry model (pre- Audi 50) to replace the full rear-engined NSU range (Prinz, 1000C, TT, etc.)?

As mentioned before it wasn't related to any of the later Audi production cars. It was more a design exercise of a possible future car that wasn't ever built..

One of the designers might have been Mr. Dienst, Angerhöfer or Schulze (sorry for the listing) - just answer if it was one of them, by chance...

I can't find a bit of a possible storyline that could be hiding behind this picture. Could it be a project for the first non DKW-based Audi, dropped in favour of the 100?

Surprise! Surprise! It's none of them mentioned in that source. Maybe the name "Helmut Warkuß" rings any bells?

Helmut or Hartmut? Hartmut Warkuß started in 1969 at Audi NSU.

No. It was a smaller car than the '100'.  As mentioned before it's not related to any other Audi production car. It has neither predecessor nor successor. It was more about which way Audi generally wanted to go in the early 70s. This was one of the abandoned projects.

Not that I know.  :-\
Not a big clue I know, but I stumbled on it in a book I purchased after one of Quiller's puzzles was solved. His puzzle car is also featured there.  ;)

I don't have access to the book, but perhaps somebody else does. Is the book Audi Design: Automobildesign von 1965 bis zur Gegenwart?

As it is pictured in the design studio, is the vehicle pictured actually made mostly of clay?
