It looks very similar to the barquette built in 1956 by Alain Bocquet based on a Simca P60.

The rear deck seems quite long - is this car rear-engined ?

Is this possibly an early MD-Peugeot?  I know they were mainly pretty coupes, but maybe there was a prototype barquette. I'm getting desperate now!

I think that maybe this is a pre-war car which has been rebodied. Amilcar?

Not a Rosengart and not an Amilcar !
It's a post-war car with a body by a coach builder !

I expect others have done the same thing, but I've just gone through a list of all known French car makers, concentrating on marques which were built in the period 1945-1960. I have discounted all major manufacturers, and any makes which were powered by rear engine, or engines provided by major makers. The puzzle car does not exist!  ;D

It's not-
Rosier
Salmson
Arista
DB
Barbier
Facel Vega
Amilcar
Rosengart
Gregoire
Chenard Walcker

I have discounted luxury marques like Delahaye and Delage - the puzzle car looks too small.

I have been through the entry lists for Montlhery in the appropriate period, and nothing fits! Surely it's not a rebodied Lambert ?

That's very kind of you to say, but if Wendax can't get it solved, then we've really got problems!
