The man looking at the car is either Dr. Horatio Nelson Jackson or his mechanic Sewall K. Crocker. They were the first to cross the American continent in an automobile. The tour from San Francisco to New York City lasted from May 23 to July 26, 1903. The car was a 1903 Winton 20 hp touring called Vermont.
