For one point: who created this illustration, and what was it meant to portend?

Only a correct, complete and specific answer will earn a point; tag-on's to other guesses will not. So, be specific and complete!

Is this advertising or editorial artwork intended to be generic rather than brand specific?

Was it meant to be the revival of a defunct carmaker, like Cord ?

It was a proposal for a specific make and model of car (which looked nothing like the illustration).

This is one of the many excellent illustrations in Pat Foster's 2013 book American Motors Corporation - The Rise and Fall of America's Last Independent Automaker.  If you don't yet have it in your library, it's worth looking for. The illustration is by AMC stylist Miller Johnson, and depicts a proposal for a 1967 AMC Rebel which never even came close to production.

Mine is going back on the shelf.

There was a production '67 Rebel, a nice-enough car (bottom pic), but nothing like this picture. I'm pretty sure Miller did this illustration in 1967, after seeing a Toronado.
