Wright Special
Chevrolet V8 + LaSalle transmission + Ford rear end.
It is for sale, again.
"Built by Johnny Wright in 1955, this California road race Special was raced at the Santa Barbara airport, El Mirage, and Bonneville. Johnny Wright was the manager of the San Diego roller-skating rink and a member of the San Diego Roadster Club. This racer features 1940s Ford running gear, vented front drums, and a 1959 Corvette V8 with an Offenhauser dual quad intake manifold backed by a Muncie 4-speed transmission. The body is hand-formed aluminum, currently in red oxide primer. The tires are new Michelin Pilot vintage models.
Not pictured is the original interior, including most of the original fabrics, door panels, kick panels, and belts. It's a 1950s time warp!
Featured in the August 1960 issue of Hot Rod Magazine, this car won numerous awards during its short racing career. Check out that pile of trophies!
After its runs at El Mirage (140.84 mph!) and Bonneville, this car was stored and lost for decades before being discovered in Michigan in the 1980s."
