Title: Bits 'n Pieces the Second SOLVED after 8 years!
Post by: DHoffmann on December 02, 2008, 08:34:50 AM
Here's the second iteration of my personal Bits 'n Pieces.

Very straightforward once more, guess what the piece presented belongs to and points are up for grabs.

As #6 is carried over from the first puzzle without being solved I think I shall put up a bounty of 3 points for the correct answer to this puzzle.

#1 is a GAZ-51 hot rod, supposedly built by the creators of the Volga V12 Coupé, which would then be A.Level. But then again, this website that I visited says the creators originally called themselves "Pemespiba" and then changed the name to "Grand Garage".

Here is a very interesting automatic translation, courtesy of Google:

"Like Volga V12 Coupe and the Volga Roadster? The good news - now the creators are working on a new project - hot come in the style of Soviet gruzovichka GAZ-51. When work began, the staff called Pemespiba, now renamed the "Grand Garage." The machine is based on Cadillac Escalade. His frame shortened, and put her cabin from GAZ-51. Inside the old shell vvarena powerful structure of sheet steel. Bonnet joined with wings. Light as a flock of carboxylic detail otkidyvaetsya forward, offering easy access to the unit. Baggage "box" will also be made of ugleplastika and the lid will have an original electric machinery created specifically for this machine. All luxury "navoroty" Cadillac will be saved.

Work on the project promised to complete by the summer."

In my opinion, the most interesting detail is the sentence I've put in bold...

Aldo Sessano was the designer, but the company's name was OTAS — sadly another unsuccessful project .

It appears that #18 is the Russo-Baltique offroad project (which I don't think ever became anything else than a scale model).

In fact I quite like it! Aggressive but still proportionate. Looks much better than, say for example, any X-series BMW... or even the Impression concept...!

BTW, where's Dustin? Hasn't answered any of his topics for quite a while...

I've been getting the itch recently for another one of these, and I've found some fantastic candidates, but there's so many left here!

So far the technique that works best when noone knows the answer, is to start asking questions.....

I know. This is why I ended up doing mostly group puzzles, because they contain (in my 4 current puzzles) something like 200 individual puzzles, but this way they're kept neatly in 4 threads. Perhaps it's a way to save some space, just merge one users' threads into one larger 'multi-guess' one once they get long in the tooth?

I know there is a discussion about this Aprilia in the expert section, but since I'm not allowed to post there....
This pic cames from an opera dedicated to the Lancia Story: 47 booklets. This one comes from the booklet dedicated to the Lancia Aprilia Derivate...they are all there, Zagato, Pininfarina and others.

(Of course João get the point, because he found the car.)

I think that number #31 is a Lancia Aerodinamica by Zagato
31. Porsche 356 on a VW Beetle
#20 - Thank to Allemano I can say that is a JAG
#31 - Should be the Lancia Aprilia by Viotti
Though DHoffmann has never been answered #31 is definetly solved I guess. Bad luck this time Oguerrerob   ;).

Oh wow, I was happily cruising the black hole for puzzles I might recognize when to my horror this pops up! I had no idea it had gone unfinished and relegated to the last (!!) page of the black hole. Of course this must be resolved quickly! I shall do my best to gather up what guesses have been correctly made since my last appearance here and get an idea of how many are left to solve.

Anyone for or against this leaving the black hole whilst it gets completed?
Title: Re: Bits 'n Pieces the Second
Post by: DHoffmann on May 09, 2015, 11:32:37 PM
Let's solve this.
Still missing:
#7   - Is it a 3-wheeler? Nope, 4 firmly planted wheels.
#9   - Japanese concept? Also decidedly not.
#10 - Delage D8? Not a Delage.
#12 - German? Not German, but close
#16 - A manufacturer's prototype or an independant's (Sbarro-Rinspeed-etc..) Manufacturer's prototype is correct.
#20 - American? Nyet.
#26 - Japanes? Nee.
#29 - German? Nein.
#30 - German? Ne.
#31 - One-off? I believe so

Let's change strategy:
#10 - Voisin C15 Roadster Saliot Not Voisin either.

I think that number #31 is a Lancia Aerodinamica by Zagato See discussion at the bottom of this page...

#20 - Thank to Allemano I can say that is a JAG Combined with the Gurgel answer below, yes that is correct!
#31 - Should be the Lancia Aprilia by Viotti See discussion at the bottom of this page...

(Of course João get the point, because he found the car.) See discussion at the bottom of this page...

Let's solve this puzzle!

Number #16 it's the 2001 Chevrolet Celta Spyder (Again!) Yes that is correct!

DHoffmann was last active in August.
Hope he's alright!   :-[ Thanks for the concern :)

31. Porsche 356 on a VW Beetle As discussed by others, no it isn't.

So for 31 most of the details are there, but the name I have of the coachbuilder is different. I have no source for my image anymore, it does not seem to appear on google images anymore either. I do see that there is a single source for the Zagato name, with the image posted by Joao and PJ featuring there. The Viotti name adds some images of scale models but the same image already posted is the only one of the real car.
I'm thus a little uncertain how to proceed. If my source is correct, I don't think I can give the point? If viotti is correct does the point go to PJ despite the base of the car being guessed earlier by Joao? Anyone with thoughts on this?

So currently still unsolved are:
#7, #9, #10, #12, #26, #29 and #30 (sort of #31?)

I have some articles about, but Zagato is never mentioned.

So that would mean the Viotti is the correct answer? This would mean that the point is yours rather than Joao's with his Zagato guess...

I'm very happy to admit that my source at the time would have been incorrect, especially considering the lack of results I'm getting now, it was named as a Lancia Aprilia Sport by Motto.

We had that car here:

Going by the louvers, it seems to be a 1935 model. Since it is not an 8 CV, it could be an 11 CV.

Thanks for the link, in your thread America75 says: "While I agree with PJ that it is most probably a Viotti creation, I want to point out that in the book 'La Lancia' by Wim Oude Weernink, the car is identified as: ...Turin coachbuilder Motto with his interpretation for an aerodynamic Mille Miglia coupé in 1938, to be driven by Luigi 'Gigi' Villoresi."
which may very well be where my source got Motto from, but my image quite clearly shows it in the same race configuration as your bottom image at the '6 ore di Pescara' so I'll mark it as solved, and your upon your insistence by Joao. :)

The louvres actually point to a very specific configuration, which I do believe is based on the 11 CV, but La Licorne appear to have given their own names to so I do still require that name.

I'm totally confused by #7. I've checked all Sbarros from 1998 to 2000 and I can't find any car with the detail you've posted. Is it an obscure Sbarro, or a non-Sbarro project he was involved in ?

#9. Made by a small car make known for other cars ?
#29. 1998 Lada Rapan concept car
#30. Made in Eastern Europe ?

I vividly remember being excited when I found this one due to the location of the detail. ;) I can't give any more clues without giving it away, but it's definitely a Sbarro.

#9. Made by a small car make known for other cars ? Not known for anything else, no.
#29. 1998 Lada Rapan concept car Yessir it is! One more down!
#30. Made in Eastern Europe ? Bingo! That hopefully narrows it down some.

#30: Dragon Motor Astero

Yes indeed it was. Happen to know a rough period? Short of going through Russian classifieds I can't seem to find a way of pinning down when these were made.

And so, that leaves just ONE before this one can finally see it's well deserved resting place in the solved section!
