It's a VW special built by Mick Larkin of Cloghan , Co.Offaly , Ireland.
It made its successful autocross debut in 1969 & was the first midengined single seater in that sport in Ireland.
It was inspired by the early formula vees & was powered initially by a VW 1200 & later a 1600.
It in turn inspired many more Irish mid engined autocross specials ,all with VW gearboxes but with many different engines including VW ,BMW ,Fiat twincam, Rover V8 ,etc.
In the late 1970s Mick swapped the special with a fellow competitor for a nice early Mk 1 Escort Twin cam which he still owns.
Apparently the special still exists having had a Golf GTI transplant in later years.
Incidentally it was originally finished in green with a gold nose band.
