This might be a Fafnir 2-liter race car from Aachen?
Rudolf Caracciola drove a comparable car at the very first Avusrennen (Berlin) in 1922.
Later version had an altered front mask and wire wheels.

Wow...I was just fishing; there are few news about Fahrzeugfabriken Ansbach und Nürnberg, FAUN, on line. I think this car may be a 6/24 PS based, or typ K2, from 1920-24.

Well, the only hard facts I have about this picture are that it was taken in 1925 at the Oberjoch-Hindelang hillclimb. That makes it most probably a Faun 6/24 PS Typ K2, built from 1924 to 1926.
One more point for you.

The stock 1925 Faun looked like that (see below).
The chassis frame´s front ends and wheels are the same.
However the race car features front brakes and is heavily modified.
Do you know more any photos of the puzzle car?

According to Werner Oswald four-wheel brakes were optional on the Faun K2 in 1925, and standard in 1926.
Unfortunately this is the only picture I know of this car.

The lines of the puzzle car are very similar to the modified Type 8/25 Opel driven by Fritz von Opel at the first Avus meeting pictured in Karl Ludvigsen's
German Racing Silver
. I suspect there may have been some cross-fertilisation.
