It is Willi Schuhnagel, his first name sometimes spelt Willy.

The last of the pictures below shows him together with Alfred Neubauer, the famous racing director of Mercedes-Benz.

Interestingly, the supposedly last racing car of Willi Schuhnagel looks awfully much like the Silver Arrow streamliner of Kurt Ahrens jr.: http://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/index.php?topic=16345
